Adding bullet points and achievements
Bullet points are the backbone of a strong resume. They make your achievements scannable and help ATS systems parse your experience correctly.
The formula for a great bullet point
Start with a strong action verb, include a measurable result, and keep it to one or two lines:
- Weak: "Responsible for managing a team"
- Better: "Managed a team of 12 engineers, improving sprint velocity by 35% over 6 months"
- Weak: "Helped with marketing campaigns"
- Better: "Designed and executed 3 email campaigns that generated $120K in pipeline revenue"
Tip: Use our AI writing assistant — click the sparkle icon next to any bullet field and it'll rewrite your point using this formula automatically.
How many bullets per role?
Aim for 3–5 bullet points per position. Fewer than 3 looks thin; more than 5 becomes a wall of text. Focus on your most impactful achievements.
ATS and bullet points
Applicant Tracking Systems parse bullet points best when they:
- Use standard bullet characters (our builder handles this automatically)
- Start with action verbs rather than "Responsible for" or "Duties included"
- Include relevant keywords from the job description naturally
- Avoid special characters, emojis, or non-standard formatting
Note: Never copy-paste bullets from the job description verbatim. ATS systems flag exact matches as potential keyword stuffing. Rephrase naturally while keeping the key terms.
